Paxton family buys Rockport, renames it to Sitka, and moves the town to Alaska

Sandra_and_Ryan.jpgWell, not really. A large part of "The Proposal", a Disney film starring Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, Mary Steenburgen, Betty White and Malin Akerman, was filmed in Rockport. The Disney Co. transformed Dock Square and parts of downtown and the harbor into the Alaskan seaport village of Sitka.

"The Proposal" tells the story of a high-powered publishing executive, played by Bullock, with an expired visa who is trying to avoid deportation to Canada by convincing her assistant, played by Reynolds, to marry her.

In the movie, the Paxton family seems to own nearly every business in Sitka. The movie should hit theaters by September 2009.

Have a look at several photos showing the transformation of Rockport, the film crew working on T Wharf, and also rigging up the camera boat at SBYC. Skip Montello also has some photos, which he made into a video slideshow.
