Elusive Wind Tests Sailors

Light, variable winds tried the patience of racers and race committee last weekend as the boundary between seabreeze and prevailing winds settled right over the race course both afternoons.

On Saturday, after watching the wind visit every point of the compass, the race committee tried to get some racing started with a downwind start for Stars and Flying Scots, but ultimately had to abandon all races.

On Sunday, the wind was marginally better and the Stars completed a shortened two-leg course and the Rhodes 19s managed a shortened one-leg course.

Fortunately for the racers, Sunday’s after race social featured a wonderfully refreshing sangria that quenched their thirst and tempered their frustrations with the wind on what was otherwise a beautiful summer afternoon!

Here are the weekend’s top finishers:

SUNDAY

Stars
  1st Place: Ed Demarais
  2nd Place: Jim Kubik
  3rd Place: Jan Walker

Rhodes 19s
  1st Place: Scott Hale
  2nd Place: Kirk Williamson
  3rd Place: Jim Lidington
