Linda Wieditz Regatta

optilw.jpg  August 4,2005 2nd Annual Linda Wieditz Memorial Regatta. Light and variable east breeze with 37 Opti sailors ready to sail fast! After a quick postponedment the racers were off and ready to sail. The yacht club was filled with Opti coaches, sailors and parents. Thanks to Paul Sylva the sailors and parents had impeccable treatment both on and off of the water. When the sailors arrived by land they had parking spots ready to pull into; when registration time came, there was juice and doughnuts which are always a big hit! Every sailor, coach, and volunteer was genrously given a long sleeve gorgeous Linda Wieditz tee shirt, which had sailboats and music notes perfectly placed. The coaches were so happy to put off laundry for just one more day! As the  day progressed the breeze finally came up from the east at approx. 7 knots. We got off three great races with only one general recall.  After some extremely close racing, the sailors arrived back on the dock with a full cookout waiting. Burgers, sausage, hot dogs, chips, pasta salad etc. were all provided by Paul Sylva and his wonderful friends and family.  A finishing touch to one of our most successful regattas had to be the raffle at the end of the day. Every sailor received a prize, which put smiles on everyones faces!   Marblehead sailors went 1,2,3, but Sandy Bay was close to follow. Great sailing by all, and thank you to everyone who helped out, it was an incredible success and a great deal of fun! Thank You.
