OPTIMIST CLASSES - Designed for
sailors weighing 50-120 lbs., the Optimist Dinghy (Opti) has become the
world standard for introductory junior trainers. With a simple rig and a
light, durable hull, Optimists have become the #1 choice of junior
sailors.
Beginner
There are two options for the beginner level, Group A and B. This is an entry level, learn to sail class. Emphasis is on comfort and safety on the
water. Students begin to learn basic sailing and seamanship skills.
A - Monday and Wednesday 8:30 - 11:30
B - Tuesday and Thursday 8:30 - 11:30
Intermediate
This class is for young sailors looking to hone their skills. Focus will
be on developing independence. This class is for the second-year Optimist
student. Students must have successfully completed the beginner class.

Intermediate/ Introduction to Race *NEW
CLASS
Sailors will continue to improve sailing skills while they learn basic
racing rules and tactics. Boating safety and fun are emphasized. This is
for the second year Optimist student who wants to get a little more
involved in racing.
Tuesday - Thursday 2:30 - 5:30
Expedition Sail *NEW CLASS
This class is for the advanced Optimist sailor who is eager to sail
independently in a wide variety of conditions in a non-competitive
atmosphere. Students will gain exposure to advanced sailing and seamanship
skills. Sailors must have completed an intermediate level course.
Monday 2:30 - 5:30, Tuesday & Thursday 12:30 - 2:30
Racing Team - Instructor approval required.
The racing team is for the advanced sailor interested in racing. Sailors
will work to develop boat-handling and racing skills.
Team members will be expected to participate in some selected local
regattas. Instructor approval required. While not required, private boat
ownership is encouraged.
Tuesday - Thursday 2:30 - 5:30 and Friday 12:30 - 4:30
420 CLASSES - The 420 is a
high-performance, double-handed racing dinghy which stands up to the
rigors of club and collegiate programs. The Club 420 is manageable for
sailors coming out of the Optimist class and enables young sailors to
learn teamwork, trapeze, and spinnaker techniques.
420 Beginner
This class is for older beginners (new to sailing) and sailors new to the
420. Sailors must be at least 12 years old or 120 lbs. The 420 provides
older students the chance to learn in a double-handed boat. Previous Optimist sailors
learn the skills needed to sail a double-handed boat with multiple sails
as they sail as both crew and skipper.

420 Intermediate/ Introduction to Race
*NEW CLASS
This class is for more advanced 420 sailors with a love for sailing who
wish to focus their skills on learning how to race a 420. This is a second
year 420 course unless the sailor has prior instructor approval. Sailors will
learn to set a spinnaker and use a trapeze harness. This course is a
pre-requisite for the 420 race team.

Adventure Sail
This class is for sailors seeking to expand their horizons, but who may
not be interested in the 420 Race Team. We are not all racers! The
Adventure sail class will improve sailors’ skills in the 420 in a
non-competitive and adventurous atmosphere. Sailors will continue to learn
420 boathandling, including how to sail with a spinnaker, basic
navigation, and most importantly seamanship. Must complete a 420 beginner
course.
