Edgar E. Baker Jr.

Edgar Eugene Baker Jr., 78, of the late Marian Reed (Logan) Baker, of
Irvana Road, Rockport, formerly of Newton, died on Sunday evening at his
residence.
He was born in Visailia, Calif., on October 12, 1913, to the late Edgar E. and
Annabelle (Byrd) Baker.
Mr. Baker was a graduate of the University of California, received his
masters degree at U.C.L.A. and his doctorate of microbiology at the University of
California at Berkeley.
He was a professor and chairman of the Department of Microbiology at the Boston University School o€ Medicine from 1949
until his retirement in 1981.
Mr. Baker had resided in Rockport since 1962, where he was an avid sailor and member of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara J. Baum of Glencoe, Illinois; three granddaughters; Tamar
Rose-Parrish of Chicago, Ill., Jacqueline R. Baum and Gabrielle Baum, both of Glencoe, Ill.; a
great-grandaughter, Jennifer Rose-Parrish of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Ruth
Feaver, Helen Moir and Anne Call, all of California; and several nieces and nephews
Mr. Baker was predeceased by a brother, Charles R. Baker.
A prayer service will be held in the Burgess and Mackey Funeral Home, 177 Main St., Rockport, tomorrow at 4 p.m.
Visiting hours will precede the service on Wednesday afternoon from 2 to 4.
Following cremation, the ashes will be scattered off Sandy Bay.
