John F. "Jack" Tierney

John F. "Jack" Tierney Jr., 75, of 80 Penzance Road,
Rockport and formerly of Arlington, died on Friday, April 29, 2005, at Lahey
Clinic in Burlington. He was the husband of Anne F. (Downey) Tierney.
Born in Boston on August 30, 1929, he was the son of
the late John F. and Mary T. (Canty) Tierney. Mr. Tierney was a graduate of
Brown & Nichols, class of 1947, and a graduate of Holy Cross College, class
of 1951.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in
the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Tierney was president of the Broadway National
Bank in Chelsea from 1959 until his retirement in 1991. He began his banking
career as a national bank examiner.
He spent summers in Rockport since 1961 and became a
permanent resident in 1991. He was a member of the Clover Club, the Sandy
Bay Yacht Club and a former member of the Chelsea Rotary Club. Mr. Tierney
was an avid boating enthusiast.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Mr. Tierney is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne
F. Tierney of Rockport; a son, Stephen R. Tierney of Chelsea; four
daughters, Jane T. Heck and her husband Richard, of Hamilton, Ellen M.
Tierney of Billerica, Maryanne Askwyth and her husband, David, of Hamilton,
and Kathleen T. McFadden and her husband, Michael, of Beverly; and four
grandchildren, Ian, J.D., Danny and Emily.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from the
Burgess & Mackey Funeral Home, 201 Main St., Rockport, on Wednesday morning
at 9:15. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Joachim's Church, Holy
Family Parish, Broadway, Rockport, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours in the Burgess
& Mackey Funeral Home will be on Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends
are cordially invited. The burial will be private. Contributions may be made
