Geraldine R. (Ricci) Knauth, 79, also known by her artist name of Jerri
Ricci, wife of Arnold Knauth, of 1 Atlantic Avenue, Rockport, died on
Saturday morning at the Den Mar Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in
Rockport.
She was born in Perth Amboy, NJ on Dec. 8, 1916, to the late Ulysses and
Alma Ricci.
Mrs. Knauth was a graduate of Mount St. Mary's in Plainfield, NJ, and
studied art at the Art Student's League in New York City.
She was an artist in Rockport for many years who was well known for her
watercolors.
Mrs. Knauth had resided in Rockport with her husband since 1948.
She was a member of the American Watercolor Society of New York, the
Audubon Artists Society, the Allied Artists of America, the Rockport Art
Association, the North Shore Arts Association in Gloucester, the
Philadelphia Watercolor Society, an associate of the National Academy of
Design in New York, the Guild of Boston Artists, and affiliated with the
Milch Galleries of New York.
Mrs. Knauth was also a member of the Sandy Bay Yacht Club in Rockport and
secretary of the Cape Ann Star Fleet for several years in the 1960s.
She was featured in the American Artist Magazine in 1954 and was awarded
numerous art awards, including the Allied Artists Gold Medal of Honor for
Watercolor in 1942; the E.J. Tonsberg Prize in 1943; the Neidringhaus Prize
in 1946 from the Rockport Art Association; the Stroud Prize at the American
Watercolor Society in 1948; and the Arthur C. Friedrichs Prize at the Allied
Artists Exhibition in 1948.
Mrs. Knauth is survived by her husband of 48 years, Arnold Knauth of
Rockport; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held in the Burgess and Mackey Funeral Home, 177
Main St., Rockport, tomorrow morning at 11.
The Rev. Karin Wade, rector of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Rockport,
will officiate.
