ROCKPORT — Kathleen E. Santapaola, wife of the late Joseph S. Santapaola,
passed
away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at Den Mar Nursing and
Rehab Center.
She was born in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia on May 31, 1921, the daughter
of the late Gladys (Floyd) and Joseph N. Fancy.
As a young child she moved to Boston where she lived until her marriage to
Joe in 1938. Her family and her Church were most important to Kay. She was a
communicant of St.Peter's Church, where she was very involved in the Woman's
Guild and in teaching Sunday School for many years. When her sons were in
junior high school, they were in St Peter's Bagpipe band, and she
participated in the sewing of the many kilts that were needed. During those
years, she happily watched many parades.
In addition to her late husband, with whom she celebrated their 70th wedding
anniversary, Kay is survived by her children, Marilyn, wife of John W.
Thompson or Rockport, Carol, wife of James T. Burke of Crossville, Tenn.,
Nancy Bater of Pepperell, Mary Jo Spofford, wife of James Spofford of
Raymond, N.H., Joseph N. and his wife Nancy of Groveland, and James and his
wife Pauline of Gloucester. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Karen
Aquipel, Elizabeth Thompson, Kimberly, wife of Matthew Anderson, James
Santapaola, Jr. and his wife Dawn, Amanda Santapaola, Andy Santapaola,
Christopher Santapaola, all of Gloucester, Sharon, wife of David Mucci, Mary
Burke wife of Jeff Wager, Susan, wife of Mark D'Entremont, Barbara Burke,
Brian Twomey and fiancee Sadie, Michael Twomey and his wife Shannon, Jim
Spofford Jr., Christine, wife of Steve Clark, Valerie, wife of Trevor Tulley,
Joseph J Santapaola, Jason Santapaola and his wife Danielle, Stacey, wife of
Eric Raffi, Brian McCarthy and his wife Rebecca, Julie, wife of Chuck
Vasquez and 26 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her
sister-in-law, Rose Tart, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also predeceased by her
sisters-in-law, Anna Lane, Jennie "Tina" Spates, Mary Joyce; her
brothers-in-law, Emery SantaPaul and Wesley "Shorty" Tart; and son-in-law,
Donald Bater.
Kay was a sweet and kind lady who will be deeply missed by all who knew her
and loved her.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from the Burgess & Mackey Funeral
Home, 201 Main St., Rockport, on Monday at 10:15 a.m. followed by a funeral
Mass in St. Joachim's Church, Rockport, on Monday at 11 a.m. Visiting hours
will be held on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The burial will
be held in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made
