W. Munroe Hale

October 3, 1998

W. Munroe Hale, 75, formerly of Rockport and Arlington, died at his home in Danvers on Saturday morning, Oct. 3, after a 10-month battle with cancer.

He was the son of Guy Pierce Hale and Martha (Bernard) Hale and is survived by his wife, Pauline Olson) Hale of Danvers.

Mr. Hale was the president of the G.P. Hale Fish Co. of Boston from 1961-81. The company was founded n 1923 by his father and carried on by his two sons.

A sports enthusiast, Mr. Hale was a defenseman for the 1943 Medford high School state championship hockey team. He represented the Sandy Bay Yacht Club of Rockport in two national sailing regattas with his Star Boat "Eclipse" and, in later years, could be found sport fishing off Cape Ann.

He was a member of the William Parkman Masonic Lodge and the Alleppo Temple.

In addition to his wife Pauline, he is survived by his two sons, Glenn, husband of Betsy Hale, of Rockport, and Wayne Hale of Rockport; three grandchildren, Drew, Cameron and Sara; and his sister, Ruth Kirkland. of Vero Beach, Fla.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Kay White and Ethel Brown, both formerly of Cape Cod.
