ROCKPORT — Myron W. Brown, 96, beloved husband of
Marguerite (Frithsen) Brown, of Rockport, passed away on Sunday, Oct.
23, 2011 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Rockport on March 10, 1915, son of the
late Alvin and Caroline (Sears) Brown.
Myron went to school in Rockport and graduated from
Rockport High School.
As a young boy, he began his hard 40 year career as a
special delivery messenger moving forward to mail carrier, clerk and
retiring as Post Master for the Rockport Post Office.
He served in United States Navy during World War II,
having been stationed in Guam.
He was a member of the Rockport Fire Department for
many enjoyable years.
Myron was also a member of many important
organizations, the Edward Peterson Post 8, Rockport American Legion,
Sandy Bay Yacht Club but his most important and true passion for life
was the Thacher Island Association in which he was one of the original
founders.
He loved the open waters, the sea was his passion and
sailing was his greatest joy.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking, long walks with family
members and took great pride in raising and teaching all of his family
members about the great outdoors. He also spent many lovely winters in
the sunshine state, enjoying Bonita Springs, Fla., and it's amazing
beaches, where he took long walks hand and hand with his amazing wife.
He is survived by his wife of 40 fantastic years,
Marguerite Brown of Rockport; three loving children, Leslie Parkhurst
and her husband Hugh of Gloucester, Lindsay Brown and David Brown, both
of Rockport; step-son, David H. Smith and his wife Angela of Gloucester;
son-in-law, Ronald Pierce of Florida; grandchildren, Stephen Whitney,
Sean and Cody Burns, Candice Diaz and Alexis and Ashley Smith;
great-grandchildren, Kamron Diaz and Lauren Jacobus. He was also a
step-grandfather to Alison Parkhurst Bell and Hugh Parkhurst III.
He was predeceased by his step-daughter, Kathryn Smith
Pierce, who passed away on July 30th of this year.
ARRANGEMENTS: In keeping with his wishes, private
services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may
be made in loving memory of Myron to the Thacher Island Association,
P.O. Box 73, Rockport, MA 01966 (please make checks payable to Thacher
Island Association). Funeral arrangements are by the Burgess and Mackey
