Roland F. Peterson

Roland F. "Pete" Peterson, 93, of Rockport, died on June 2. He was the husband of
Janet (Motherway) Peterson.
Mr. Peterson was an avid sailor and enjoyed gardening and playing bridge.
He was a graduate of Dartmouth College and served as an officer in the U.S. Army finance department during world War II. He retired from Arkwright Boston Insurance Co. in 1976 as a systems analyst.
He had a strong commitment to community service, having served as chairman of the Walpole Red Cross Bloodmobile for 26 years. His service was recognized by a commendation from then governor of Massachusetts, Michael Dukakis.
In Rockport, he devoted close to 20 years to the Friends of Meals on Wheels, delivering meals, raising
funds and recruiting volunteers to help with the cause.
He is survived by his daughter, Marcia Miller, and her husband, John, of Indianapolis, Ind.; his son, Mark Peterson, and his wife, Ellen, of Westford; a sister, Ruth Mezzararella, of Princeton, N.J.; grandchildren Amy, Andrew, Elliott and Elizabeth; and family across the country.
A memorial service will be held on July 24, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Rockport at a time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his name to the American Cancer Society.
