Steven Gallo

April 24, 2020

Rockport - Steven J. Gallo, age 74, of Rockport, passed away Friday afternoon, April 24, 2020 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington.

Born in Pearl River, NY, he was the son of the late Angelo and Yola (Colosimo) Gallo. He was a graduate of the University of Dayton in Ohio where he earned a bachelor of science degree in Chemistry and Biology. He furthered his education by graduating with a master's degree in Chemistry from Harvard University in Cambridge. Steve also continually worked on earning his graduate credits in Biochemistry, Statistics and Physics from the University of Massachusetts in Boston.

Mr. Gallo's life revolved around his work. He had been employed as a Nuclear Chemist for Massachusetts General in Boston for the past 8 years. He would wake up every morning at four am to slowly drink a cup of coffee and reflect before he would catch the train to Boston for work. He loved his little community of commuters on the train. Steve will be dearly missed by everyone in his nuclear medicine research department at Massachusetts General.

Steve truly enjoyed being a chemist, physicist, and philosopher. He was also an avid poet, gardener, and reader. Steve was also a monster movie buff and loved watching anything to do with Godzilla. He enjoyed working with his hands and was a talented woodworker, mechanic, and handyman. On the weekends in the summer he loved sailing flying scouts at the Sandy bay Yacht Club, but recently decided to retire to the easier Bullseyes. Family was extremely important to Steve and he was a great dad to all his children.

Surviving him are four daughters, Dawn Carlson and her husband, Michael; Shanti Gallo McKenna and her husband, John; Nying Gallo and her significant other Dylan Enos with whom Steve resided with in Rockport along with Nying's mother, Kathryn New Gallo and Wody Gallo; three sons, Eric Gallo and his roommate, Jeffery Rockwell, Geoffrey Gallo and his wife, Vickie Vienes and Blake Demers and his wife, Abby; six grandchildren, Philip CW Gallo, MacKenzie and Zachary Carlson, Haley Wells and Brendan McKenna and Lydia Demers; four step-grandchildren, Kaleb, Dalton, Cecil and Josh; his dear sister, Susan Rooney and her husband, Patrick of New Jersey; two nieces, Mary Thorp and her husband, Scott, Megan Rooney; his nephew, Michael Rooney and his best friends, Dan and Marylin. He was also predeceased by his son, Asa Gray.
