Gloucester - Thomas H. Coder, 83, of Gloucester, husband of Estelle "Sandy"
(Samuels) Coder, passed away Friday, May 22, at his home following a lengthy
illness. Born in Brockway, Pa., son of the late Ernest and Octavia (Yale)
Coder. Thomas was a graduate of Brockway High School, class of 1954.
Following graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and was
stationed in Alaska. While at Brandy Camp in Pa. in 1959 he worked as a coal
miner. Thomas was a graduate of Penn State University earning a degree in
Accounting and worked for U.S. General Accounting Office from 1965-1991.
Upon retirement, he worked as a Certified Public Accountant in
Massachusetts.
Tom was a member of Bass Rocks Golf Club and a lifelong member of Brier Neck
Association. He loved being on his boat and taking friends and family
fishing, whale watching, schooner races, Gloucester's parade of lights and
fireworks displays in Gloucester harbor. Tom also fished for giant blue fin
tuna and was lucky to have caught fish with both his son's. He was loved and
respected by his family and many friends and associates. We will miss the
twinkle in his eye.
He is survived by his loving wife, Estelle "Sandy" Samuels-Coder; his son,
Thomas Paul Coder; grandchildren, Brenton Hall, Ian Fraley, Rocco Joseph
Manzi and his wife Savannah, Shane Neils, Nathan Coder and Paige Neils; two
great-grandchildren, Natalie Coder, Jack Lee Fraley; a sister, Yvonne Brosky;
a brother, Guy Eugene Coder. He was predeceased by his son, Eric Jason
Coder; and daughters, Sharon Lee Fraley and Darcy Marie Neils.
In keeping with his wishes Tom's ashes will be scattered at sea at a later
